EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS

Canadian and U.S. job numbers were released last Friday for February. Here are some of the highlights:

CANADA:
- The unemployment rate overall went down .2% to 7.4% which is good, but employment was really unchanged
- The economy lost 2,800 jobs overall
- 37,000 people left the labour force in the month – meaning that they stopped looking for work – which is the main reason why the unemployment rate went down.
- Employment fell for youths 15-24 years old, it increased for those over 55 and stayed the same for those between 25-54.

US:
- U.S. employers continued the stronger pace of hiring last month.
- Employers added 227,000 jobs in February
- Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained at 8.3%.
- In the last year, the US economy has gained about 2 million jobs but still needs about 5.6 million more jobs to return to 2008 levels.

Donc, ça va mieux mais la récession est toujours présente et avec, son cortège de peurs et de restrictions...
